Examining The Human Form With Jack Vettriano, Darren Baker & Todd White

Category: Canvas Art – tkwriter 9:29 pm

Artists have always been facinated by the human figure and produced figurative based art. The natural curves and features of the human body are a constant source of inspiration for a number of artists from Beryl Cook to Banksy. This is some thing that has spread from the art world to every magazine cover in the country, so there must be a primal intrigue for humans to examine our own and other people’s bodies. Three of the top contemporary artists in this style are Texan painter Todd White and British artists Darren Baker and Jack Vettriano, although there are major differences between their painting styles. One thing that is the same is their love for painting the human figure and in particular females.

Painter Todd White comes from Texas and has had an interesting career path. He started life working in Hollywood for Warner Brothers and was part of the artistic creative team behind Sponge Bob Square Pants. This could explain the cartoon like features of the people he paints in his contemporary pieces. Todd White often shows people in black clothing, socialising and drinking wine and this could be down to his location in LA. It would seem that Todd White is surrounded by Hollywood schmoozers and social climbers and from his artwork, I’d say he is not a fan.

Darren Baker is a young and very promising British artist, that has already commanded a great deal of respect from his peers. Darren Baker has received a number of awards from the art world and has private and public collections in the House of Lords and Downing Street. He has also been approached by many sports personalities to paint portraits, this is probably because he was appointed official artist of The Professional Footballer’s Association when he was 23 years old. Darren has a contemporary style that combines realism and classics and he is fond of painting figures. Darren Baker prints frequently female figures often in relaxed, seductive positions and he often uses a mix of black and red colours.

Jack Vettriano comes from Fife in Scotland and has won a number of awards for his figurative and nude pieces. Jack Vettriano artwork have a film noir feel to them, putting many of his subjects in a 50′s style. He often features ladies in his paintings often in relaxed poses or in the middle of doing something like leaving a room through a door. Jack Vettriano often paints characters that appear distracted, many of his pieces feature people staring off into the distance or focused on some thing else.

Do You Know Anything About Art Singapore

Category: Canvas Art – tkwriter 7:42 am

Not many people would associate art with singapore. So, it is not surprising that not many people have heard of art singapore. In fact, have you heard of it before?

Well, art singapore is an art exhibition that is held annually in Singapore and is boast of between close to a hundred art booths showcasing art from all over the world. It is the only one in Singapore and its prominence can rival that in the region, for example, Art Hong Kong.

I think as a tool to propel Singapore into the next level of Art exploration, it is definitely a good tool. But, as a avenue to know more about art, I guess it failed miserably.

Here is my thought, when you have art hong kong, the majority of people showcasing their works are from China. And as Hong kong is part of China, so it is still acceptable. But for art singapore, they showcase works from all over the region, and some even come as far as Australia, but nothing much from the local artist.

Now, you do see the strange situation. An event known as Art Singapore that does not really showcase singapore art. The fact is, art singapore exist more for a monetary reason rather than to art exploration or simply art appreciation.

A booth that cost close to twenty thousands dollars, come to think of it, you do not think a person that is exhibiting in the art singapore is really interested to assist you to better understand art right?

They are here as businessman and are hoping to get as many orders as possible. Instead of talks on art appreciation, you have people talking about art as an alternative form of investment.

After hearing some of the talks, I do see the logic in investing in art. There are numerous merits investing in art, one of them is the tangible asset that it is. Imagine, government can freeze all your assets but they cannot really freeze your art pieces right?

Moreover, this is a collector market and as the paintings or art pieces get circulated gets smaller in numbers (because some collectors would not float it in the market), the pieces appreciate in value.

What other investment allows one to spend a few thousands dollars and over a span of a few years has the potential to become few millions. Of course, this is very rare, but such opportunities exist, and who knows you might be one of the lucky one to be part of it!

There you have it, a simple explanation of art singapore, an event that is about art but not really about singapore art. Heard this year, it would be in October.

When Will The Critics Stop With Jack Vettriano

Jack Vettriano is one of the {UK’s|United Kingdoms} most {liked|popular} {painters|artists}, with a public {connection|appeal} {not matched|unsurpassed} by {other|most} artists that are {at present|presently} {working|painting}. The {problem|issue} is that the {lowliest|most common} of breeds the {UK’s|United Kingdoms} critic, doesn’t {approve of|like} what he {paints|does}.

This isn’t {saying|to say} that Jack Vettriano isn’t a {brilliant|fantastic} artist who {produces|captures} {scenes|moments} that {the public|people} {connect|relate} to and love, Or that Jack Vettriano Prints don’t have a {huge|massive} {fan base|following} {across the globe|worldwide} with {upto this point|to date} more than {half a million|500,000} posters of his {paintings|work} being {bought|sold} {worldwide|globally}.

{Equally the|The} fact that in April 2004 one of Jack Vettriano’s {paintings|pictures} was {auctioned|sold} for just {short|shy} of 750,000 pounds at Sotheby’s and that Jack Vettriano {was awarded|received} an OBE for his {work provided|contribution} to the arts. {Appears|Seems} a {bit|little} {weird|strange} that {somebody|someone} that {paints|produces} this {sort|kind} of work has been {rejected|ignored} by {many|several} British National Arts Collections and Museums.

Jack Vettriano {came into the world|was born} in 1951 in Fife, Scotland, he {left|eventually left} school at the {tender age|age} of 16 to {start working as|become a} mining engineer at the coal fields {close|near} to {the place|where} he {had his home|lived}. A girlfriend {bought|gave} him a {pack|set} of watercolour paints for his 21st Birthday {that|which} he then {began|set about} teaching himself to {work with|use} ({it seems obvious that|obviously} {a person|someone} that teaches themselves how to {create|do} {a painting|something} is {straight away|instantly} going to have a {difficult|hard} time from academia, elitists and art snobs alike).

{At the point|When} he {felt|was} ready Jack Vettriano {chose|decided} to put in|submit} {2|two} of his {paintings|canvases} to the Royal Scottish Academy annual show in 1988 and they were {quickly bought|snapped up} on the {1st|first} day. Jack Vettriano was then {contacted|approached} by {a number of|several} galleries that {asked|wanted} to sell his {paintings|work} and his {following|success} has {slowly|gradually} {bloomed|blossomed} from these {unassuming|humble} beginnings.

In 2004 “The Singing Butler” {eventually|finally} {quieted|silenced} the critics even if {only for a short time|briefly} with its {purchase|sale} at Sotheby’s. It seems {particularly|fairly} {ignorant|ridiculous} that {someone|somebody} that is {evidently|obviously} well {respected|liked} by the {population|public} at large should {be forever|constantly be} {struggling with|fighting} {individuals|people} that {are unable to|cant} fit him into a {category|box} or tick their self {regulated|imposed} guidelines for what’s {of worth|good} and what’s not. If Shakespeare hadn’t been {well liked|popular} do you {really|actually} think he would a/ have got any {commissions|work} or b/ still be {influencing|gracing} our {everyday|lives today}.

{Regrettably|Unfortunately} for us the {individuals|people} that {purchase|buy} for “our” public art collections are {precisely|exactly} the {sort|type} of {critics|people} that I have been {highlighting|mentioning} and to this {point in time|date} I am {not aware|unaware} of Jack Vettriano’s {paintings|work} {showing|featuring} in any of Scotland’s national galleries. Jack Vettriano is {a highly skilled|an accomplished} artist that despite the {arrogance|ignorance} of the art world at large is {painting|producing} {pieces|work} that not only has {presence|depth} of character but also {a life|vibrancy} that {makes sure|ensures} his {status|popularity} with {individuals|people} that see beauty as real {instead of|rather than} some formula {understood only by|known only to} an elite (so called) few.

Recent studies show that Kootie Bug Kids Art ranks very high in the category of children’s art. One advantage Kootie Bug has is that it is created using Giclee reproduction, which allows for batter color accuracy than other methods. Further, the canvas is hand stretched onto wood stretchers, while the sides are decoratively finished, so no framing is needed. Also popular with Kootie Bug Kids Art is the kid safe design of the art.
